Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much do you cost?
That all depends on what you want. I'm not the most expensive freelancer out there, but I'm the first to admit that I'm not the cheapest, either. Once you give me an idea of what you want, I can let you know how much it will be. And if you know your budget already, I can let you know what I can do for that amount. The best way to do that is to e-mail me.
The important details:
- I accept checks, money orders, and PayPal. Returned checks are subject to penalties.
- A 50% prepayment is due before work begins on a project, with the balance due on completion. For projects totaling $1,000 or more in price, the payment schedule may be broken into three or more installments.
- Reduced rates are available for select services for full-time students and 501(c)(3) organizations at my discretion. If you believe you qualify for a reduced rate, please let me know! Please note that student discounts are available only for academic projects. Visit Editing for Everyone for more information on academic editing services.
- I reserve the right to assess a late fee of up to 25% of the total balance of your invoice, compounded monthly, if a project is not paid in full by its specified deadline.
2. Can I get a sample?
Of course! For writing projects, I'll e-mail or snail mail you examples of similar work I've done. For editing, I'll perform a free, no-obligation sample edit of the first 500-1,000 words of your document. (If your document is extremely short, though, we may make other arrangements for a sample.)
3. I'm a student. Can you help me with my paper?
You probably want to check out my scholarly and academic editing service, Editing for Everyone. Be sure to read the ethics policy when you get there so you can see what services I do and do not provide for students. The short version: I already went to school, so unless I'm walking away with the degree, I'm not doing any more homework. That means you do the writing, and I just edit it.
4. I have a great idea for a book/article. Do you want to write it for me?
Maybe. Why don't you e-mail me for a price quote on ghostwriting? We can talk about what you have in mind and see if our styles are a good match.
5. I've seen your pictures on your blog, and you look like you're a little young for this. How old are you, anyway?
Why does everybody ask me this? I'm 25. I might be a little young, but I'm a lot qualified. I have an English degree and 5+ years of experience, and I have a Master of Professional Studies degree in publishing. Check out my résumé if you need a little reassurance. I won't mind.

“Kristen is a keen, savvy editor with an eye for accuracy, grammar, and style. Not only does she remain consistent throughout the entire editing process, but she’s helpful and friendly. She worked with me to ensure that my book retained my editorial voice and stayed professional. Her comments were extremely useful and proved that you always need an extra editorial eye for any written material — she brought up ideas I hadn’t even thought of, and I loved them all. I plan on writing more books, and I’ll be using Kristen to edit every single one! Thank you, Kristen! You made my book a masterpiece!”
